Jane Bridgeman is a specialist in the history of dress and textiles and was formerly Senior Associate Lecturer in Art & Design History at Winchester School of Art. She is currently teaching at Central St Martin's College of Art, London.
Dr Jane Bridgeman read Italian at Birmingham University, and History of Dress, and History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Her research interests are the iconography of dress and textiles in Italian Renaissance art and the relationship of dress, ceremonial, and diplomatic protocol in fifteenth and sixteenth century Italy. She was a founding member of The Textile Society (1982), and The Courtauld History of Dress Association (1991) now the Association of Dress Historians, and was Programme Secretary of the Medieval Dress and Textile Society (1995-2008). An Associate Lecturer in Fashion History and Theory at Central St Martin's College of Arts and Design, London, Jane has lectured in the History of Dress & Textiles and History of Art and Design for over twenty years in a variety of institutions, and has published widely in English and Italian.
